Southern Institute of Technology a business division of Te Pūkenga is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to teach within the Automotive Department at our Christchurch Campus situated in Hornby.

The successful applicant will hold NZ/National Certificate (Level 4) in Automotive Engineering or A Grade Certificate, and qualification in adult teaching would be desirable. Current Industry knowledge and experience in all facets of the automotive trade would be advantageous.

Responsibilities will include as follows but are not limited to:

  • Teaching - responsibility is taken for the management of teaching and learning.
  • Student related Responsibility - Maintenance of positive relations with students, and provision of appropriate support.
  • Administration - Completion of administrative requirements for programme operation.
  • Personal and Professional development - Retaining vocational currency, developing tutorial skills and for degree tutors, contributing to achievement of research outputs.
  • Programme Development and Review - Contribution to the evaluation and further development of programmes.

Key attributes we are seeking include:

  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • A genuine desire to educate and mentor students.
  • Ideally a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the automotive industry - could include both heavy and light automotive engineering.
  • Effective communication with a diverse range of people.

While previous teaching experience would be an advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being encouraged to undertake study towards the NZ Certificate of Adult Teaching, offered through SIT.
