2018 Academic Vacancies

Music Tutor 0.8 proportion – 1 year contract

We are looking for an appropriately qualified and experienced person to teach across our Music and Audio Production programmes. The successful applicant will hold at least a Bachelor’s degree with preference being given to those with a postgraduate qualification. Teaching and/or performing experience would be advantageous.

Papers to be taught include Ensemble, Business Studies, Music Education, Contemporary Style Analysis and Music Technology.

Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies and Masters in Applied Management Tutor

The successful applicant will hold a Masters in a business related field, however preference will be given to candidate who have a PhD qualification. We are looking for a person who has experience in Programme/Curriculum Management, industry experience and research capable.

Papers to be taught include International Business and Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Human Resource Management, plus Research Supervision.

Research Supervisor

As this position will be responsible for the supervision provision to all postgraduate students the successful applicant will be PhD qualified, hold an Adult Education qualification (or hold units towards) have experience in postgraduate supervision, teaching, research and/or staff supervision.

Chef/Hospitality Tutor

You will hold, as a minimum, a National Certificate in Cookery Level 4 or equivalent, preferably a Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts and have or be working towards NZQA Unit Standard 4098 (Assessment). You will also have a proven record of achievement in industry with preferred minimum of 10 years as Head Chef or similar.

SIT is looking for people who are good communicators, with a strong aspiration to work with a mix of international and domestic students, someone who is self-motivated, diligent with the ability to work well within our existing teams.

While previous teaching experience would be an advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being encouraged to undertake study towards the National Diploma of Adult Education and Training, offered through SIT.

Joinery Technician/Campus Maintenance

Southern Institute of Technology is combining the above two positions at the Invercargill Campus. We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified person to support the work of tutorial staff by ensuring machinery is in optimum condition and class materials are available when required, and carry out general maintenance on campus.

We are looking for a person who has significant experience in all aspects of Joinery, both with hand tools and machinery who has the ability to maintain stock records and purchase stock and materials as required.

The successful applicant will be an energetic, enthusiastic and diligent person able to organise their time effectively while having the ability to use initiative when required.
