Social Services Tutor

Southern Institute of Technology is a well recognised provider of tertiary vocational training, offering a comprehensive range of programmes that lead to formal qualifications. We are currently looking to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced person to teach a range of subjects within the Social Services discipline including Social Sciences, Micro Counselling Skills, Supervision and Social Service Law.

We are seeking applications from Members of ANZAWS or NZAC who are eligible for social work registration, and hold a Bachelor of Social Work (or working towards completion of such). Ideally you will have experience in the following:

  • Social work/social service work experience with Maori, family/whanau, Pasifika, disability and mental health sector
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance and application to social service work.
  • Working with oppressed marginalised groups within Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Working cross-culturally and an ability to work with differing cultural perspectives within the social services sector
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation

Above all you’ll be a good communicator with a strong aspiration to work with a motivated and committed group of students and staff.

While previous teaching experience would be an advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being encouraged to undertake study towards the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Education and Teaching, offered through SIT.

Environmental Management Tutor

Southern Institute of Technology is the region’s largest provider of tertiary vocational training, offering a comprehensive range of programmes that lead to formal qualifications at Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels. We are seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced people to fill a permanent full-time vacancy within the Environmental Management area.

The successful applicant will hold at least a postgraduate qualification, preferably Masters in Environmental Science/Management and have extensive experience in teaching geology, chemistry and hydrology at a tertiary level. An ability to contribute or be responsible for both teaching and fieldwork in environmental management, soils, groundwater, geology, conservation, chemistry, ecology and student project development and research is required.

There will be occasions when student fieldwork will be undertaken during weekends in remote locations and there is an expectation that the successful candidate will continue teaching links with outside groups.

This is an exciting prospect for the right person to join our teaching team. While previous teaching experience would be an advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being encouraged to undertake study towards the NZ Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching, offered through SIT.

Student Support Officer - Limited Tenure Maternity Leave Position

Southern Institute of Technology is the largest provider of tertiary education in Southland and has the above vacancy which plays a key role in supporting student learning, activities and employment needs. The position is available until approximately the end of July 2018.

We are looking for a person who has a bright, outgoing, positive personality for this position as you will be working with a diverse range of SIT’s students. You will need to be passionate about the benefits of tertiary education and able to work with particularly young students who have had less than positive prior experience with education.

The successful applicant will also have strong administrative skills and be capable of taking responsibility for compiling and submitting compliance reports to appropriate Government Departments. Preferably you will have an undergraduate degree, with a sporting background being beneficial. Sound interpersonal skills are also required to ensure effective liaison with faculty staff.

Marketing Officer - Student Liaison

Southern Institute of Technology currently has the above full-time vacancy within the Marketing Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and energetic person to join the domestic marketing team. The successful applicant will hold a tertiary qualification in marketing or related discipline and while it is desirable to have some experience in this field recent graduates are welcome to apply.

 

Applicants must be flexible and adaptable with effective organisational and time management skills and have a high level of computer literacy. A positive work ethic and the ability to work unsupervised are critical.

 

As the position may require attendance at out of town expos you will need the freedom to travel and stay overnight at various times throughout the year. Of course you will spend a large amount of your day talking to prospective students therefore your communication skills, both verbal and written, must be of the highest order.

Chief Information Officer

Southern Institute of Technology is seeking applicants to oversee the use of Information Technology in our organisation and ensure the Institutes administration functions meet internal and external stakeholder needs. This is a key management position, which will provide leadership to the IT and Administration Sections.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in Business Management or Information Technology. He or she will be able to demonstrate strong leadership and technical operational skills, credibility for the position, sound budgetary knowledge and experience, attention to administrative detail and have a desire to be part of an innovative team. The CIO is responsible for leading the development of SIT’s strategic technology plan and ongoing operational functions and should have the ability to think and act strategically while effectively managing the details of the day-to-day IT and Administrative operations of both sections along with the knowledge and expertise to manage and deliver projects on time and within budget.
