Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) provides quality tertiary education and training across a wide range of subjects and qualifications offering programmes at campuses in Invercargill, Christchurch, Queenstown, Gore, Auckland and online through SIT2LRN Distance Learning. SIT also has specialised faculties in music and rural education - MAINZ – Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (Auckland and Christchurch) and Telford in Balclutha, South Otago. Through its Zero Fees Scheme, SIT is currently the only tertiary provider in New Zealand to offer a no tuition cost education for most programmes to domestic NZ students for every year of study, at all levels.

SIT is a fully owned subsidiary company of newly-established Te Pūkenga, the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, which brings together the existing 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) into one organisation as part of the significant set of changes for the New Zealand tertiary education sector under the Reform of Vocational Education (RoVE). Te Pūkenga is responsible for ensuring equity and excellence for all New Zealanders in the area of vocational education.

Responsibilities:

    The SIT Board is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive - a change agent with a learner/customer centric focus to lead SIT to become a demand-driven organisation that:
  • Supports learners in community based, work based, classroom based and online learning environments

Southern Institute of Technology Limited has a vacancy for a suitably qualified administrator to undertake the above role within the Directorate area. The applicant will have a friendly and outgoing personality who can relate well to a wide range of people and has a customer service attitude, is highly organised and has the ability to multitask.

Support staff play an important role in the functioning of SIT, and this key position provides administrative support and assistance to the Chief Executive and HR, with a high level of confidentiality being required.

Ideally, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification, with experience working as a personal assistant. For the day to day tasks, you will be responsible for diary management, managing telephone calls, emails, and other communication, preparing documents, arranging travel and accommodation, agenda compilation and accurate and detailed recording and typing of minutes for Board meetings, event management, managing and distributing internal mail, and other general administrative tasks as required.

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes.

  • Professional, well presented, and approachable
  • Superior typing skills – at least 60 wpm
  • Strong organisational skills, able to juggle multiple tasks, manage competing priorities
  • Familiarity and above average competence with the Microsoft suite of programmes,

FULL TIME PERMANENT

Southern Institute of Technology is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to teach on the apprentice programme for Plumbing/ Gasfitting and Drain laying within the Trades and Technology Faculty at our Invercargill Campus.

The successful applicant will hold Certification in Plumbing and it is desirable to hold Registration or Certification in gasfitting and / or drainlaying but this is not necessary.

This is an exciting prospect for the right person to join our teaching team. Lifestyle opportunities exist, with Invercargill being in close proximity to some of the finest outdoor areas in New Zealand.

While previous teaching experience would be a distinct advantage, training is available in this area with academic staff being required to undertake study towards New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5), offered through SIT.

PERMANENT FULL TIME

Southern Institute of Technology is the largest tertiary education provider in Southland and has the above vacancy to lead the domestic student support team who play a key role in providing student pastoral support and facilitating access to student learning and activities.

As the Team Leader, you will be responsible for the supervision of staff. Therefore, it is expected that the successful person will have strong leadership and sound communication skills to work with staff and a diverse range of SIT students. You will need to be passionate about the benefits of tertiary education and working with a group of entry-level students who have had a less than positive prior experience with education.

The successful applicant will have strong administrative and time management skills as well as proficiency with Microsoft Suite. Preferably you will have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with experience in providing pastoral support and /or facilitating access to youth learning. Sound interpersonal skills are also required to ensure effective liaison with faculty staff and coordination of student activities.

Southern Institute of Technology Limited has the above vacancy to employ an extremely organised, accurate, and observant person who demonstrates the high degree of integrity, conduct, and discretion required in dealing with information and records of staff and students at SIT.

The successful candidate will possess a qualification (preferably post graduate) or equivalent experience in Information and Records Management. This role's primary responsibility is the development and maintenance of all records and documents management policies, procedures, and standards and providing consistent and high-quality Records Management leadership and support across the organisation. Additionally, the Records Officer will work alongside SIT’s IT Department to ensure the security, privacy and integrity of the organisation’s records and information.

You will have the ability to prioritise, communicate efficiently and be able to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a small team. In this role you will be relied on to strongly encourage the adoption and appropriate use of SIT's' electronic document and records management system across the entire organisation. You will achieve this by working with staff to ensure records and information management is integrated into the organisation’s business processes and implementing EDRMS features for new or enhanced capabilities to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of records and information management.

You will have:

  • Proven experience of working in the information or records management field.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the adoption or improvement of Electronic Document Records Management.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Public Records Act 2005, the Privacy Act 2020, and the Archives New Zealand Information and Records Management Standard 2016.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding collaboration skills and work well as part of a team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at SIT (Southern Institute of Technology Limited) for an Instructional Designer who will develop engaging and innovative learning solutions to make a genuine difference in our students' learning experience. This role will also work with academic staff to deliver transformative learning, designed and developed using evidence-based best practices.

In this role you will help ensure SIT delivers quality, learner-centric digital materials across a wide range of programmes which are delivered in-person, online/distance or blended modes.

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • a passion for leveraging technology to enhance student experience and outcomes
  • experience with Learning Management Systems and/or development of interactive digital educational material
  • able to identify and implement best practice in online and blended learning contexts.
  • understanding of UX (User Experience) principles
  • technical skills in web front end development such as HTML and CSS, and some experience with VR/XR development
  • ability to articulate the learning design process and work collaboratively with academic staff to create exceptional digital learning materials

The successful applicant will have a qualification or equivalent experience in instructional design (or related fields such as training or education), ideally also the NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education, and proven experience in course design and development with an understanding of the importance of Te Ao Māori and utilisation of Māori pedagogies when designing for learning.

Key responsibilities will be to:

  • Work with subject matter experts in the creation of engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods
  • Aid in increasing organisational competency with learning material development and make recommendations for improvements in online course design.
