Enrolling as an international student at SIT
It’s easy to enrol at SIT as an international student. Simply follow these six easy steps to start your journey towards a world class future with SIT. If you are a New Zealand Permanent Resident or Australian citizen please follow the domestic student application process.
1. Choose your programme
You can find information on and choose from over 216 programmes here. If you have any questions about your preferred programme, feel free to contact us.
2. Complete an international student application form
You can find the form here (Adobe PDF file). Please write clearly in English.
3. Attach the required documents
Make sure you include copies of your:
- Passport or birth certificate
- Recent IELTS, TEOFL or equivalent English proficiency test results (if available), as approved by NZQA
- Transcripts and academic achievements with English translations (if applicable)
You may also need to provide the following information (check the requirements of your particular programme from our website):
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter of intent telling us why you wish to study your chosen programme
- Character or work references
- Portfolio or business plan.
All documents must be in English or be translated into English.
4. Send it to us
The easiest way is to send it by email to email@example.com
You can also send it to us by fax or post
Once we receive your application, we will assess it and advise one of the following outcomes:
All entry criteria met including English > We will issue you with a full Offer of Place (OOP) > You can apply for a Student Visa
All entry criteria met except English > We will issue you with a Conditional Offer of Place (COOP) > You can apply for a Student Visa once you have met our English conditions
Entry criteria not met > We may request further evidence, suggest an alternate study programme or decline your application
5. Apply for a student visa
If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place and an invoice. Use these documents to apply for your student visa. For assistance with the student visa application process, refer to our helpful visa guide. You can find your nearest Immigration New Zealand branch here.
6. Tell us when you will arrive
Once your visa is Approved in Principle you then pay your fees and book your flights. Advise us of your arrival details and we will book your airport pickup, insurance and first two weeks accommodation – all at no additional cost!
