With the help of SIT Bachelor of Sport and Exercise students, New Zealand's high-performance para-cycling programme is launching new medalists every year.

The team's altitude training for the Para-Cycling team when they were preparing for the world championships was prepared and managed by the student, who are thrilled that they were able to help the athletes succeed on the world stage.

‘Don’t be a Tosser, Put it in the bin’, is Natalia Waaka’s Research Project. She is a Year Three Bachelor of Applied Media Art Student. Her research project is aimed at creating social awareness that there is a litter problem here in Invercargill.

Distance learning took a back seat in January, when 10 SIT2LRN students gathered at the Invercargill campus for an intensive 10-day Summer School for Coaching.

Arriving from throughout the country, most of the participants are studying towards either a Certificate or Diploma in Coaching which are aimed at those wanting a formal qualification as a career, business or life coach.

The Southern Institute of Technology will host Information Technology (IT) industry leader Intergen on 14 May. Intergen specialises in the design, development and integration of business knowledge, information technology and creativity. The company was formed in 2001 and now has offices around New Zealand, Australia and Western United States, providing IT solutions based exclusively on Microsoft's tools and technologies.

The Southern Institute of Technology is to host executives from International College of Advanced Technology (ICATS) next Monday 5 May until Wednesday 7 May at both the Invercargill and Christchurch campuses. This will be the first visit to SIT for the ICATS executives since the partnership was formalised in March this year. Tan Sri Dato Amar Aziz – Chair of ICATS,   Dato Baharuddin Abdullah – CEO of ICATS,  Mr. Rambli Hasbi – Deputy Executive Director (Student Services), and Mr. Isham Fauzi – Chief Operating Officer will meet with SIT executives and tour SIT facilities and campuses in regards to the pilot initiative the two institutions are working on.

SIT has partnered with technology training company Ripped Orange who will provide courseware, exercises and lesson plans for the popular Computer Snacks courses at the SIT Queenstown campus.
