A great choice for a quality tertiary education, providing a wide range of subjects and qualifications, the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) continues to show growth in student enrolments again in 2019. Overall domestic student numbers are up by 15 percent, with strong growth of around 2164 students at their Invercargill campus alone.

New Zealand cyclists will be looking to this week’s UCI Track World Championships as an important litmus test on their progress towards next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

The 17-strong Vantage Elite team face a five-day competition starting on Wednesday at the BNP Paribas Arena in Pruszkow, Poland.

As a result of the Education Minister’s announcement of Wednesday 13th February, proposing to merge all 16 New Zealand ITPs into 1, the Minister and officials are now visiting our Invercargill Campus on Friday 1 March.

We have also arranged a community meeting with the Minister’s officials from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at SIT in Hansen Hall, and are inviting any members of the Southland community who wish to attend. We would encourage you to spread the word of this meeting to any friends and family who wish to attend and make their opinions heard.

Yesterday morning Telford students were welcomed onto the Balclutha campus with South Otago High School students performing a Haka and singing a waiata as part of the official Powhiri.

Southland is a holder of the Hawke Cup, New Zealand's prized trophy in regard to minor-association cricket.

The Southern Institute of Technology has contributed to creating a strong Southland Cricket Team by enticing international students, particularly from India, to come to Invercargill, Southland to study. Their passion for cricket helped ensure that they felt at home in Invercargill as many of SIT's Indian students flowed in large numbers into Southland cricket clubs.

Kirstie James pipped her teammate Holly Edmondston by the narrowest of margins in record times on the opening day of finals at the Vantage Elite & U19 Track Cycling National Championships in Cambridge.
