National Diploma in Project Management

Shirley Turner is an IT Project Manager at Whangarei District Council.  When she transferred into the role in 2013 she was given the opportunity to undertake formal studies in Project Management, so she jumped at the chance to gain a tertiary qualification.

She decided upon SIT2LRN because “the course content was so clear and easy to understand, it gave me confidence that I could actually achieve this Diploma through distance learning.”

She studied part-time with a heavy study load, completing the National Diploma in Project Management in 18 months. “This was achievable because of the support I had from family, my managers here at Council, course facilitators and the conscious effort I knew I needed to put into planning and scheduling around everything else that was happening – work, home and life in general.”

Shirley says “I really enjoyed studying via SIT2LRN.  It gave me the freedom to manage my time around my job and family commitments without the stress of having to worry about getting to a class or having to be somewhere that didn’t fit in with work or family.”

Her course facilitators were “just awesome! Their comments and guidance played a big part in keeping me motivated and it really felt like I was on this journey with them and not on my own. They always replied with encouraging and helpful feedback.”

Shirley plans to continue onto Project Management Level 6 and then cross-credit that towards SIT2LRN’s new offering, the Bachelor of Applied Management.
