Do you have experience in nursing education? Would you like the opportunity to work with an innovative teaching team and grow your research and scholarly expertise while contributing to the development of the future New Zealand nursing workforce?
Join the School of Nursing at the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), Invercargill. The SIT School of Nursing is distinctive for its vibrant and progressive approach to world-class tertiary education and its comprehensive range of programmes. Nursing education has been delivered in Invercargill for more than 45 years, with consistently strong student achievement and outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your professional nursing knowledge and skills in an academic role, shaping the next generation of nurses through the delivery of innovative, high-quality programmes that contribute to positive health outcomes for our communities.
About the role
The primary function of this role is the development, delivery, and ongoing review of innovative, fit-for-purpose curricula across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes. Teaching is grounded in culturally responsive and inclusive practice that supports student success and wellbeing.
As an academic staff member, you will be part of a collegial and committed team contributing to teaching, research, scholarship, and the academic life of the School of Nursing. You will support student learning through teaching and facilitation that promotes clinical reasoning, problem-solving, reflective practice, and clinical skills development.
This position includes both academic and clinical teaching components. Clinical teaching may occur across a range of settings, including acute care, mental health, care of older people, primary care, community, and paediatrics. Applicants with clinical experience or particular interests in mental health, acute care, aged care, primary care, or community nursing are especially encouraged to apply, although experience in other areas is also welcomed.
SIT values teaching that is responsive to Aotearoa New Zealand’s diverse cultural context. Nurses with an interest in, or experience supporting, culturally safe practice, Kawa Whakaruruhau, and the integration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles within nursing are encouraged to express interest, as these perspectives meaningfully support our teaching and learning environment.
You will value collaborative practice, enjoy working within a supportive team environment, and be committed to the ongoing development of your teaching, clinical, and scholarly practice.
To be successful, you will have:
- Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate
- A minimum postgraduate qualification in a health-related discipline
- A relevant teaching qualification, or a commitment to complete a tertiary teaching qualification within two years of appointment
