An exciting opportunity has become available for an IT Engineer to join our in-house Digital team. In this role, you'll help shape the future of SIT's digital environment, as well as keep critical technology services running smoothly.
You’ll be part of a fun, high-performing internal IT team, as well as working closely with colleagues across the organisation and external suppliers. The role includes responding to operational requests and incidents, maintaining documentation, and contributing to system architecture design decisions, infrastructure projects and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong communication and a curious, innovative mindset will be key to your success.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Contribute to ongoing use and new implementations of modern service & systems management and delivery – including automation, cloud services, AI
- Install and maintain physical infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and network switches.
- Help manage storage and backups (Pure Storage & Veeam) and maintain overall health.
- Administer virtualisation environments (VMWare): Build, patch, and decommission virtual machines and maintain tools.
- Monitor, maintain and report on Azure environments and operational support tooling.
- Help manage Active Directory/Entra operations, including performance monitoring and group policy
- Oversee VDI environments (RDS and Azure Virtual Desktop), including image management, troubleshooting, scaling and cost monitoring.
- Maintain core networking services - IPAM, VLANs, VPNs, routing and firewall rules
- Develop and maintain alerting, monitoring and automation to improve reliability and reduce downtime; participate in on-call and monthly patching as required.
What You’ll Bring
- Ideas and enthusiasm for using modern technologies
- A degree-level qualification in Information Technology (or equivalent experience).
- At least 3 years proven experience as a Service or Service Desk Engineer
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience supporting server, cloud and identity platforms (Azure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra).
- A disciplined approach to ticketing, documentation and change management, with a strong customer-service mindset.
- A proactive, solutions-focused attitude, with the ability to prioritise and keep stakeholders informed during issue resolution.

Technology You’ll Work With
You’ll support a varied environment that includes on-prem infrastructure and Microsoft cloud services, with a focus on reliability, security and continuous improvement. Ideally you will have familiarity with some of the products below, but we will also provide training and support.
- Cloud & productivity: Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365
- Identity & endpoint: Active Directory / Entra ID, Group Policy, SCCM
- Virtualisation & VDI: VMware ESX, RDS and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
- Networking & monitoring: IPAM, VLANs, VPNs, Fortigate firewalls, Aruba switching & wireless, and monitoring tools (e.g., CheckMK, PRTG, Airwave, Clearpass)
