The Southern Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified Simulation Technician to support high‑quality clinical learning within the School of Nursing. This permanent, part‑time role works collaboratively with nursing lecturers to ensure the effective delivery of clinical simulation teaching.
About the Role
The position involves operating, maintaining, and preparing clinical simulation technology and environments. You will run and programme simulation scenarios, operate patient simulators, task trainers, and VR tools, and diagnose and resolve technical issues during sessions. The role also includes supporting a wide range of medical simulation equipment, coordinating vendor servicing, and ensuring all technology is functioning reliably.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include preparing simulation rooms, setting up scenarios, staging equipment and clinical devices, applying moulage to create realistic environments, and resetting spaces in line with infection‑control standards. You will also manage stock, maintain equipment logs, and handle ordering and inventory processes.
About You
We are looking for someone with strong communication skills and experience working with computer hardware, software, and troubleshooting. You should be adaptable, willing to learn new technologies, and able to explain technical concepts clearly. Clinical knowledge or familiarity with medical terminology is an advantage, as is experience with moulage. The role requires someone who can lift and move equipment, maintain confidentiality, and work systematically.
Qualifications
A formal qualification in computer science, film, health, or a related field is preferred, along with experience in technical troubleshooting. Familiarity with VR technology or SIM MAN 3G is desirable, and we welcome applicants with a combination of relevant training, education, or experience in simulation technology.
