An exciting opportunity has opened for a Website Developer to join our Digital Business Solutions team on a 9-month fixed term to support the development of Southern institute of Technology’s website.

In this role, you’ll contribute directly to the redevelopment of the Southern Institute of Technology’s public website - work that will support students, staff, and our wider community every day. 

This is a hands-on development role where you’ll build templates, components, backend functionality, and integrations that form the foundation of our refreshed digital presence. You’ll work across the full development lifecycle: designing, building, testing, documenting, and deploying updates that help shape the future of SIT’s online experience. 

You’ll join a motivated and supportive Digital team, working closely with designers, content owners, systems specialists, and stakeholders across the organisation. We emphasise modern development practices, structured workflows, and a collaborative approach to delivering secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

  • Supporting the redevelopment of SIT’s website by building and updating templates, components, and backend functionality using Python and Django. 
  • Implementing frontend templates with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and connecting them to backend data sources. 
  • Working with our content management system (CMS) to manage structured content and extend CMS functionality where needed. 
  • Integrating and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs to power dynamic website features. 
  • Investigating and resolving bugs, performing testing, and contributing to stable releases. 
  • Working with stakeholders to clarify requirements and communicate progress clearly. 
  • Creating clear technical documentation and contributing to a smooth handover at the end of the fixed term. 
  • Following team standards and contributing to secure, maintainable development practices. 
  • Keeping Azure DevOps work items up to date and using modern workflows such as branching, pull requests, and code review. 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Experience in website or web application development, ideally using Python and Django. 
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and building templates that integrate with backend systems. 
  • Experience working with CMS platforms, structured content modelling, and web publishing workflows. 
  • Experience integrating RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs. 
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (we use Azure DevOps). 
  • Strong problemsolving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot effectively. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work confidently with nontechnical stakeholders. 
  • A proactive, cando attitude, with the ability to deliver results within a defined timeframe.

  • Languages & Frameworks: Python, Django, HTML, CSS, JavaScript 
  • Workflows & Tools: Git, Azure DevOps (Repos, Boards, Pipelines), modern branching strategies, code review 
  • APIs: REST, GraphQL 
  • Infrastructure: Collaboration with internal teams supporting infrastructure, security, and integrations
