Dr Sally Bodkin-Allen

Dr Bodkin-Allen is the SIT Research Manager and a music educator, composer and arranger. She regularly composes and arranges for musicians in the local community such as school choirs, young performers and the brass band. She writes musicals that have been performed throughout Aotearoa and in Australia. Her academic research has largely been focused on singing behaviours and in particular, Outreach Singing, an altruistic approach to music-making developed in Australia by Ass. Prof. Susan West. Recent research in this area has examined the effect of Outreach Singing on singing confidence in adults, and impact on the singing confidence and well-being of adolescents. Current projects include the impact of Outreach Singing on student nurses’ willingness to work in aged care, and the writing of a new piece of musical theatre which will be premiered in Invercargill in 2022.
