Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is holding an Online Open Night on Tuesday 26th May from 4.30 – 7.30pm. Prospective students can easily talk to SIT via web chat or Messenger to find out how to enter into study, with the range of on-site programmes available.
New Zealanders have been through some significant challenges in the last 2 months with heavily restricted lives, but one of the most enduring outcomes from the Covid-19 pandemic is the loss of jobs in a variety of industries, tourism and hospitality being two sectors especially hard-hit.
As the country enters into economic recovery mode, one of the bright sparks on the horizon is the opportunity to retrain in a completely different field, or it could be a long- held interest that may now open a door to become a new job or career path.
SIT’s innovative Zero Fees Scheme makes upskilling or retraining feasible for those not wanting to take on a large student loan in the process. That new qualification may be more affordable than imagined, and it’s the perfect time to find out more details. Staff will be available to talk about zero fees, study options, career pathways and the extent of services SIT has to offer.

As well as this, SIT offers a supportive learning environment to make the upskilling journey as successful as possible. Taylor Hill will graduate at the end of the year with a Bachelor of Commerce, double major in Marketing and Management, after a knee injury forced her out of work and a rethink of her future. She speaks of her study journey at SIT.

She loved the Blackboard set-up which made study easier at home, describing the systems in place as a life-saver. Taylor has also utilised support services such as the nurse and counsellor at stages throughout her time at SIT which she said has been very helpful.
