In its first graduation event for 2025, Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) held the Murihiku Tertiary Academy (MTA) graduation recently, where the results continue to prove the success and quality of the programmes
The Murihiku Tertiary Academy (MTA) operates as a cross-faculty initiative, involving collaboration between the Faculty of Trades and Technology, the Faculty of New Media, Arts, Business and Computing, the Faculty of Health and Humanities, as well as SIT Gore and Telford campuses.
The Academy continued to deliver a diverse and high-quality learning experience in 2025, delivering 16 programmes, supporting 253 students from 18 secondary schools across the region, in technology, trades, health, primary industries, creative arts, service sectors, and creative technologies.
At the MTA graduation, held on Monday, 17th November, a packed Hansen Hall with proud parents, caregivers, families, whanau and friends along with SIT management and staff, celebrated the 183 students who achieved 20 or more credits this year. 16 top students from each programme were acknowledged with trophies, and also recognised was the impressive achievement of 24 students who maintained 100% attendance, up from 18 students last year.
SIT Operations Lead, Amanda Whitaker, acknowledged the mahi of SIT staff, “which has made the MTA one of the best academies in New Zealand with exceptional outcomes in attendance, academic results, further study and employment.”
Russell Finlay – Programme Operations Manager, said 2025 has been another great year for the Academy students and all those involved. “A big thank you to our local school partners for their help and support over the year.”
