This programme aims to produce students who demonstrate capability in applied arts skills, understanding of applied arts knowledge and applications of techniques to a range of applied arts and craft practices.

This programme aims to provide participants who complete the qualification with the skills and knowledge required to operate as capable technicians in the construction industry. These skills include: establishing a design brief, presenting preliminary designs, developing building concepts and preparing working drawings. The programme also aims to develop skills applicable to the wider construction industry, including health and safety plans, quality assurance and construction methodologies.
The programme will allow students to gain skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to initial employment, or further training in the audio industry, or for entry to the Bachelor of Audio Production. Students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and skills to standards recognised by the industry sector as appropriate, and develop work habits and practice appropriate for further training and employment in the audio sector.

SIT works in conjunction with local service providers to provide quality trained staff to help service the farming, civil construction and road transport industries. Specifically its automotive section is providing pre-trade training for potential diesel mechanics.
SIT is accredited to provide a specialised course in Automotive Heavy Trades by the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). We are also accredited to conduct off-job training for diesel mechanics and hold a distance learning contract for the MITO, meaning SIT facilitates and assesses correspondence work for apprentices all around New Zealand.
During the Certificate in Automotive Heavy Trades course, students are placed with a recognised automotive heavy equipment repairer who will both delegate them various tasks and help SIT assess their progress.

The Certificate in Construction course covers carpentry theory, elementary construction skills, health and safety, drawing and practical construction skills. Every class builds a house from scratch, with practical sessions being alternated with classroom learning. Classes are 3 days per week and students are encouraged to seek work experience with an employer for the other 2 days. This course allows students to work through a lot of the theory units required for their building apprenticeship, which should help them get through their apprenticeship faster.

The National Diploma in Journalism (Multi-media) (Level 5) is the initial qualification for a professional journalist in the specialist area of newspaper journalism. It is a nationally recognised qualification, taught at a journalism school which is supported by foreign correspondent Peter Arnett.
Learning at the Peter Arnett School of Journalism is facilitated by a simulated newsroom environment with individual work stations, newspaper files and a daily news sourcing system. The aim is to create a working environment which enables students to develop skills in news gathering, news writing, meeting deadlines and teamwork. Students will be assigned news rounds and are expected to develop stories for publications. In addition, students will spend four weeks in work experience placements at newspapers around New Zealand.

The aim is to qualify people as line managers, supervisors, section, departmental or branch managers. NZIM has selected a range of papers from the New Zealand Diploma in Business to make up the Diploma in Management. You need to do four compulsory and choose two optional papers to complete this qualification. These papers are taken from the basket of papers available for the New Zealand Diploma in Business as approved by NZQA. This means that students can gain certification in the NZIM Diploma in Management while they study towards the New Zealand Diploma in Business, but must ensure that they satisfy all course and individual paper prerequisites to gain certification in both qualifications. NZIM charges a fee to register each paper.

The programme is made up of four wahanga (sections) Te Hau Rawhiti - The East, Te Hau Raki - The North, Te Hau a Uru - The West, and Te Hau Tonga - The South. Te Hau Rawhiti has a descriptive focus, Te Hau Raki contains a language of investigation, Te Hau a Uru begins with a focus on retelling stories and rekindling memories and Te Hau Tonga continues to focus on present happenings and occurrences.

The National Certificate in Travel (Level 4) recognises the skills and knowledge required in making and processing international travel arrangements that meet customer needs; including the ability to make computerised reservations for domestic land, water and air travel, and domestic and international accommodation. The course also covers dealing with difficult situations and customer complaints; applying calculations and data analysis; and presenting information orally to an audience.

SIT Invercargill Campus is offering courses in Unit Standard 24305: “Install, test, commission, and maintain solar water heating systems”.
It is a 4 day theory and practical learning and assessment block course aimed at licenced plumbers who wish to become eligible to apply for Registration as an EECA Participating Installer, or to hone their skills to improve the quality of solar hot water installation.

This qualification is a progression from the Certificate in Elementary Hair Design. It recognises people in the hairdressing industry who have demonstrated competence in the knowledge and skills required by industry. Holders of the qualification are able to consult and analyse with a client and give advice, provide detailed client records, provide basic client services such as midway colouring, clipper cutting, basic hair cutting, make informed decisions on what action needs to be taken and carry out that action in a professional manner, recommend home hair care products and how to take care of and style the hair and communicate with the client fully at all times.

This course will give students the knowledge and skills required to use portable power tools and to setup, use and maintain fixed machinery (bandsaws, surface planers, thicknessers, ripsaws, stroke sanders, boring machinery).
