New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) (Health Sciences) graduate

Completing a New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) with SIT2LRN helped provide Ian Bartlett with the confidence to continue studying towards a nursing degree.

Ian graduated from the level 4 health sciences course, grateful for the opportunity to develop his own learning through SIT2LRN, while still being able to work full-time.

“I have had a varied and enjoyable work life so far, from slightly claustrophobic office jobs to bracing physical outdoor work. At some points I have studied full-time and other times part-time to solidify my knowledge,” Ian said.

“I enjoy all education, including community education which is a great resource for social and educational contact. Though I am by no means a natural, I think education is important for people to continue to gain insights and challenge themselves mentally.”

Ian’s decision to study with SIT2LRN was prompted by his work in the health industry.

“I began my course in health sciences with SIT2LRN after a few years of health-care employment, and having completed the training on offer at work. I began to look into deeper study around health care as I found gaps in my knowledge that made me aware of what more I needed to learn,” he said.

“It was a good decision. I could have undertaken a year’s full-time study locally, but financially that would not work. SIT2LRN distance learning is a good fit for full or part-time workers who want a greater skill base, to qualify for future employment, or just to invigorate the mind.”

“I have travelled overseas, and want to again, but at this stage, having bought and sold a house, I wanted to commit to longer term study toward a change in focus,” he said.

The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) was an ideal way for Ian to develop his learning ability and to adjust to the demands and disciplines required for distance learning.

“For myself, I was testing my ability to work and study at an intensely focused rate that the health science papers demanded,” he said.

However, Ian found online study “very effective considering I was 1000 km away from campus. The communication was great, I borrowed library books that arrived in a couple of days with freepost return, and when I got lost on the website technological queries were answered promptly.”

“The learning I received and the grounding I obtained through the health science papers has enabled me to continue along the health pathway to become trained as a registered nurse. My sincere thanks to the facilitators and administration staff.”

While there were other options available, Ian is pleased with his decision to commit to studying with SIT2LRN and is now looking forward to continuing his education and to working in his chosen field.

“I achieved the goal I set myself through determination, but also genuine excitement of the knowledge I was gaining and the enjoyment of that.”
