Bronwyn McBain  -  Bachelor of Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science

The well recognised academic nursing programme and Zero Fees scheme bought Bachelor of Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science graduate Bronwyn McBain to the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT).

Bronwyn said SIT’s reputation lived up to her expectations.

“When I undertook my study at SIT, the tutors were exceptional!"

She enjoyed a range of placements at Elderly Health, Tiwai Smelter, Roxburgh Children’s Health Home, in addition to rural medical clinics and medical, surgical and mental health facilities.

“In my third year, I undertook my electives in the outer islands of Indonesia, and then worked in a disaster medical team in the mountains of Pakistan after the earthquake in 2005.”

Working overseas as part of her placement inspired Bronwyn to pursue further employment overseas in Indonesia, Vanuatu, Pakistan, Bolivia (South America), West Africa in Ghana and Burkina Faso.

She also worked in Sierra Leone with the Australian/NZ Government, Ministry of Health team fighting the West Africa Ebola outbreak for three months in 2015.

As well as her overseas work, Bronwyn has also been employed as an emergency nurse at Southland Hospital and has recently started in the ICU at Dunedin Hospital.
