Originally from Delhi, India, Shovik had studied Hotel Management with the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Guwahati, India, prior to his studies in Queenstown, New Zealand. He also had five years of work experience at the Crowne Plaza, Hyatt Regency and ITC Hotels in India, specialising in work within the front office.
With study and experience under his belt in India, Shovik wanted to push himself to acquire some international exposure – something that is important in his industry. Living, studying and working on the other side of the world would assist him in relating to the international customers that are such a large part of work within Hotel Management.
Hearing about Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) through several consulting firms in India, Shovik decided the impressive feedback he had heard must make it a great study option and “I chose SIT because this course would give me the confidence to enhance my development in the industry and to establish great career opportunities for myself.”
Shovik was impressed by the standard of learning and the tutors on his course. “All the tutors are awesome and have been great advisors. The course was a step up in my learning and incredibly helpful towards my education surrounding New Zealand hospitality.”
Studying the Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management definitely helped with finding a job in the hospitality industry while in Queenstown. “I was given great exposure into New Zealand’s hospitality industry working for a year with Holiday Inn Queenstown and then stepped up to work with Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, which will boost my hospitality career.”
While studying in Queenstown, Shovik made the most of his time in the beautiful locale, even joining the Queenstown marathon team.
“I would definitely recommend the Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management to other students who wish to further their studies in hospitality and study in New Zealand. In the future I would like to grow both personally and in my profession, which is definitely working in hotels.”
