The Murihiku Trades Academy forms an integral part of the Southern Institiute of Technology’s programme to help guide Year 11 to 13 students on a path to a career in trades.

As part of the Murihiku Trades Academy Engineering/Automotive programme, the students have completed a design-build project involving the creation of 70cc mini bikes.

On Saturday, November 2, following scrutineering at SIT’s Tay St campus, the bikes will be put to the test at the Teretonga Park Raceway.

Scheduled to start at approximately 11am, the events will be held over several hours with seven expected to be run.

These events include; sprint, slalom, drags, slow lap, timed laps, a relay and an obstacle course (if time allows).

SIT staff will be on hand to help run the event, with each assigned a specific role, and at 3pm they will compete themselves in a Timed Sprint, Timed Slalom and a Drag race.
