One year full-time

Te Ara Reo Māori (He Pi Ka Pao) is primarily a Māori language programme that provides access to a safe and exciting learning environment underpinned by Māori values and philosophies. This beginner’s level Māori language programme will introduce the learner to basic tikanga Māori and introductory conversational Māori language. Te Ara Reo Māori is unique in its preferred delivery methodology of Ako Whakatere (accelerated learning) techniques. This programme aims to increase the number of speakers in conversational Te Reo Māori across all generations and cultures. The learner will examine aspects of tikanga Māori through activities specially designed to encourage communication in Māori. These will include a combination of formal and informal situations such as hui, powhiri and noho marae. Te Wananga o Aotearoa sees the Te Ara Reo Māori programme as an opportunity to develop communities within New Zealand that celebrate and share each other's cultures, languages and experiences.
