Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) has different campuses around New Zealand with different intake / start dates for different subjects and courses.

ENROLLING NOWNZ DOMESTIC STUDENTS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

NZ DOMESTIC STUDENTS

SIT offers ZERO Tuition Fees for NZ Domestic Students for all years and levels of study. We are the only institute in New Zealand that offers this initiative for its students.

The Zero Fees Scheme is applicable at our Invercargill, Christchurch, Queenstown, SIT2LRN, Gore and Auckland Campuses. 

Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand  (MAINZ) and our Telford Campus are not part of the Zero Fees Scheme and tuition fees will need to be paid. 

HOW TO ENROL - DOMESTIC STUDENTS

Step 1: Find a programme

Find the programme that you would like to study. If you have any questions about a programme please contact us.

Step 2: Enrol Online

Once you have found the programme that you wish to study, you can enrol online. 

You will need:

  • Government ID or National Student Number (NSN)
  • Personal Information
  • Academic Information

*Please note that some programme enrolments involve an interview.

Step 3: Application Process

Once submitted SIT will process your application, which may take a few weeks depending on the time of year.

Some programmes may require an interview and SIT will contact you. 

If accepted into your programme SIT will communicate this with you through an acceptance letter.

If your application is declined, we still may be able to offer you an alternative study pathway or course.

Step 4: Acceptance

If accepted into your programme you will be sent an Enrolment Contract, Class and Fees details and a Student Handbook with essential information.

*At this point you should apply to Studylink if you require a student loan or allowance.

Once you sign your Enrolment Contract and return it to SIT with payment details we can confirm your place in your course.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) offers one of the most affordable tertiary education in New Zealand to International Students.

Thanks to strong community support, SIT can keep its fees low for international students. Unlike many other institutions, we don't have lots of different fees and charges. Our course fee and resource fee covers most of the services.

HOW TO ENROL - INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Step 1: Choose your programme

You can find information on and choose from over 216 programmes here. If you have any questions about your preferred programme, feel free to contact us.

Step 2: Application Form

Download and fill out the International Student Application Form.

There will be required information needed for your application, which is outlined in Step 3.

Step 3: Attach the required documents

Make sure you include copies of your:

  • Passport or birth certificate
  • Recent IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent English proficiency test results (if available), as approved by NZQA
  • Transcripts and academic achievements with English translations (if applicable)

You may also need to provide the following information (check the requirements of your particular programme from our website):

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter of intent telling us why you wish to study your chosen programme
  • Character or work references
  • Portfolio or business plan.

All documents must be in English or translated into English AND verified by an education agency or registered Justice of the Peace/Notary Public

Step 4: Submit your application

The easiest way is to send it by email to applications@sit.ac.nz

You can also send it to us by fax or post  

Once we receive your application, we will assess it and advise one of the following outcomes:

All entry criteria met including English > We will issue you with a full Offer of Place (OOP) > You can apply for a Student Visa

All entry criteria met except English > We will issue you with a Conditional Offer of Place (COOP) > You can apply for a Student Visa once you have met our English conditions

Entry criteria not met > We may request further evidence, suggest an alternate study programme or decline your application

INTERNATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Step 5: Apply for a student visa

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place and an invoice.  Use these documents to apply for your student visa.  For assistance with the student visa application process, refer to our helpful visa guide. You can find your nearest Immigration New Zealand branch here.

Step 6: Pay tuition fees

Once your visa is Approved in Principle you then pay your fees and book your flights.

Step 7: Tell us when you arrive

Once your fees are paid and your visa is approved your enrolment will be confirmed. Then you should advise us of your arrival details and we will book your airport pick up, insurance and first two weeks accommodation – all at no additional cost!
