The SIT Gym is located on the corner of Tay and Conon Streets. It has recently undergone a complete refurbishment. Programmes are available for fitness, rehabilitation, strength, health and high performance - see the SIT Gym staff during open hours. You must sign in every session and show your student ID card.

2017 Membership costs for students:

  • One year (February to November) - $162
  • Per month - $18
  • 10 concession card - $45
  • Casual - $5 per session


  • Monday to Friday, 11am-1pm and 3pm-7pm.

SIT Café

In the heart of the Administration block at Southern Institute of Technology lies CAFÉ "The Kitchen" at SIT. In this café, not only will you be provided with fine food that is prepared daily you will also find the finest cappuccino, melt-in-your-mouth hot chocolate and freshly squeezed orange juice. Fresh foccacia bread to chocolate gateau, hot meals to Jimmy's Pies and almost everything in between! Both indoor and outdoor seating is available, so sit down, soak up the atmosphere or pop in and take it away. A perfect place for your private function or conference. 


Bungalow Restaurant

The Bungalow Restaurant is Southern Institute of Technology's Training Restaurant, offering great food and service at an even greater price! Not only can you enjoy memorable and delicious dining, but you will also be participating in the training of our future chefs, kitchen hands, restaurant staff and managers.

The Vault Café, SIT Arcade

Run by our SIT Hospitality students at various times throughout the year, The Vault Café is located in the SIT arcade between Esk and Don Streets in Invercargill's City Centre serving a variety of freshly made sandwiches, salads, savoury items, cakes / baked items and daily specials - inexpensive and very yummy!


SIT Fashion shop, SIT Arcade

Did you know that SIT have their own Fashion Shop? The store is located in the SIT Arcade (between Esk and Don Street), this shop sells clothing and art made and designed here in Invercargill, by graduates and current students of SIT.  The Shop is also a work space, so you can come in and see fashion in the making!

Not only do fashion students learn how to design and produce clothing, they also are supported by learning essential elements of starting up their own business, with expert help from the business and fashion departments. The students enjoy this retail space that helps nurture their vision, encouraging them to realise their dreams and aspirations.


Childcare Centre

SIT Childcare Centre - Learning for life.The SIT Childcare Centre is welcoming, friendly and safe.

We aim to work in partnership with children, parents/whanau to build strong, trusting, open relationships that will allow the children to become independent, confident, active explorers, contributing to their own learning in an environment that is filled with challenging experiences, laughter and fun.

Location: Corner of Ness and Eye Streets
Hours: 7.45am-5.15pm, Monday to Friday.
The centre is closed for Public Holidays and 4 weeks over Christmas/New Year.
Fees: $6.20 per hour / $195 set weekly rate. (2018) --- Centre offers 20 ECE hours for 3-5 year olds making set rate $102 per week.
Includes: morning and afternoon tea, soundproof sleeping rooms, inside and outside play areas.

Conditions for the set rate are:
Actual attendance must be 35 hours plus per week. The set rate applies regardless of Public Holidays, days off, shortened hours or teacher only days (maximum of one per year)

Childcare Subsidy: There is a subsidy available through Work and Income New Zealand. This is based on personal circumstances and income - speak to your case manager.

Massage, Beauty & Hairdressing

Need a makeover? Try the range of professional services available at a discounted price at our Beauty Therapy Clinic and Hairdressing Salon. Phone 2112699 and ask for service details.

Got a twinge that needs taken care of? Take advantage of our relaxation, sports and therapeutic massage sessions in the SIT Massage Clinic. Phone 2112699 ext 8819 for details.


Fashion and Art

Shop for the latest fashion and help a student develop their client base at SIT Fashion, then check out the latest exhibitions in the Transition Gallery, both at the SIT Arcade. The Fashion Shop, SIT Arcade, is open 11am-4pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Transition Gallery, SIT Arcade features rotating exhibitions throughout the year.

Music Concerts

Make the most of your lunchbreak with our free lunchtime concerts. Enjoy performances from students of the School of Contemporary Music and Audio Production every Friday, 12-1pm at Centrestage Theatre on Don Street.
