The Master of Applied Management is aimed at management practitioners and recent graduates, wishing to undertake an advanced programme of study in order to prepare for further study or to assist with obtaining a more senior position. Public and private sector organisations employing graduates of the Master of Applied Management will benefit from the advanced knowledge and capabilities (including analytical, managerial and research) that the graduates have acquired during their programme of study.

Part 01
Compulsory Paper
MGT 804 Research Methodology and Proposal (30 credits)
Note: This paper must be taken as one of your last papers prior to enrolling in the research project or thesis.
The student will prepare a research proposal for a relevant topic in applied management, including reviewing relevant literature, formulating a methodology and completing an ethics application.

Students must complete 30 credits from the Following Papers
MGT 805 Applied Management (30 credits)
The student will develop knowledge and skills in undertaking strategic analysis, formulating strategy appropriate to an organisation’s internal and external environment and measuring the impact of the implemented strategy to improve efficiency and productivity.
MGT 806 International Management (30 credits)
The student will critically examine key aspects of management practice in a global environment, will be able to identify and evaluate trends of globalisation, and recommend a strategy for international business expansion.
MGT 807 Sustainable Business Practices (30 credits)
The student will develop knowledge and skills in analysing and assessing contemporary issues in sustainable business practices. The specific focus will be on the economic, environmental, social, and cultural costs of doing business.
Part 03
Students undergoing the Masters with Research Project (MGT910) pathway must complete 60 more credits from the list below or from Part 02.
Students undergoing the Masters with Thesis (MGT902) pathway must complete 30 more credits from the list below or from Part 02.
MGT 813 Project Management and Governance (15 credits)
This course aims to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies that will enable participants to explain the practice and application of project management in various contexts, identify and apply the principles of successful project management and governance, and examine the role of projects in achieving business strategy.
MGT 821 Business Communications (15 credits)
The student will develop knowledge and skills in professional business communication.
MGT 822 Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation (15 credits)
The student will develop the knowledge and skills required to apply entrepreneurial attitudes, attributes and innovative practices to the development and strategic management of business enterprises.
MGT 823 Business Finance
The students will develop financial knowledge and skills required for the management of a business venture.
MGT 824 Business Human Resources (15 credits)
The student will critically evaluate the human resources needed for a business enterprise: critique the role of planning in human resource management.
MGT 827 Applied Marketing (30 credits)
The student will develop knowledge and skills in developing, implementing and managing marketing strategies that are effective in creating customer value, long-term profitability, and sustainable practices.
MGT 828 Applied Business Planning (30 Credits)
The student will acquire the knowledge and skills required to develop a business model and business plan for a proposed or existing business. The student will apply business planning theory to develop and present a business plan for the establishment and ongoing operation of a proposed business or for enhancing an existing business.

The student will develop expertise in conducting publishable research about applied management.

This Masters programme will give you the tools to advance your management, decision-making and problem-solving skills, so you can move into senior managerial positions.
The variety of sectors and organisation types this qualification can apply to is huge – almost every type of organisation has scope for management careers. Graduates may opt to become self-employed practitioners, or pursue domestic and/or international professional careers in roles such as general manager, operations manager, international manager, human resource manager, marketing manager, or management consultant.
Graduates of the Master of Applied Management will be able to:
Students will have completed all requirements of a relevant bachelor degree, graduate diploma, postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma with at least a B grade average at Level 7 or higher.
Special Admission
Notwithstanding the above admission criteria, in exceptional circumstances a mature aged applicant who can show evidence of ability to succeed in the programme may be considered for admission, provided the applicant has successfully completed an approved course or programme, or has relevant work experience which is deemed to meet the required standard for entry.
Provisional Part Time AdmissionAn applicant who does not meet academic criteria, may be provisionally admitted to enrol in one or more papers. Upon successful completion of the paper(s), the student may apply for special admission.
English Language Requirements
Applicants, whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools is not English, are required to provide evidence of having achieved one of the following
NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance, or
an International Baccalaureate Diploma or Cambridge A- level qualification for which the teaching and assessment was conducted in English; or

Students from the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise with B- above in all papers and dissertation are eligible to credit this study into the Master of Applied Management. These students still need to complete MGT801 Management Practice (15 credits), MGT804 Research Methodology and Proposal, and one of MGT910 Research Project (60 credits), or MGT902 Research Thesis (90 credits).
For students wanting to progress to a PhD or Doctoral Studies later on, it is strongly recommended that they enrol in the MGT902 Research Thesis paper.
All SIT2LRN courses require you to have a computer and Internet access. Students are required to use their SIT webmail only for all SIT2LRN communications. All course materials and information, including assessments and due dates, are located on the online Blackboard system. Once you have been accepted into a programme you will receive an Important Information Booklet that includes information that you can use to familiarise yourself with our online Blackboard learning environment. From the intake start date you will have access to the online course materials to work through.
Facilitator Assistance: During the enrolled intake period, students have email access to Facilitators, who endeavour to respond to emails within 48 hours (week days only). All students are required, within the first two weeks of an intake, to send an email to their Facilitator confirming their start on the programme of study. Students who have not emailed their facilitator or embarked upon their course of study by the end of the 2nd week of an intake, will be Faculty Withdrawn from the programme. Such withdrawals may impact on future access to SIT Zero Fees Scheme and Student Direct Material Costs are still liable for payment.
All students will get an official academic transcript on successful completion of their programme of study which will be posted or given at Graduation. After each intake is finished, it is suggested that students check their results on MySIT.
