We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Learning Assistance & Youth Guarantee Support Advisor to join our Student Support Services team in a fixed-term, full-time role.

This position combines academic learning support with targeted Youth Guarantee learner success initiatives, providing holistic, strengths-based support to students across a range of programmes and qualification levels.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Student Support Services, you will:

• Provide individual and group learning assistance sessions.
• Support learners with academic writing, study skills, research, referencing (including APA), digital literacy, and exam preparation.
• Develop and deliver workshops designed to enhance learner success.
• Provide proactive support and case management for Youth Guarantee learners.
• Monitor learner engagement, attendance, progress, and wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff to identify and support learners at risk.
• Assist learners to transition successfully into further study, employment, or training pathways.
• Support SIT's commitment to learner success, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice.
• Maintain accurate learner records and contribute to organisational reporting requirements.

What You'll Bring

Essential Qualifications

• A master’s degree or higher in Education, English, Humanities, Learning Support, Educational Psychology, Adult Education, or a related discipline.

Essential Experience and Knowledge

• Demonstrated experience supporting tertiary or adult learners to achieve academic success.
• Strong knowledge of academic writing, research methodologies, referencing systems, and academic integrity.
• Experience delivering workshops, tutorials, and one-to-one learning support.
• Understanding of learner success strategies and barriers to learning.
• Knowledge of the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice.

Essential Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, administration, and reporting capabilities.
• Ability to build effective relationships with diverse learners and stakeholders.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Ōritetanga, and culturally responsive practice.
• Ability to work effectively with Māori, Pasifika, disabled learners, Youth Guarantee learners, and other priority learner groups.

Desirable

• Teaching, lecturing, or adult education experience.
• Experience supporting Youth Guarantee or foundation-level learners.
• Previous experience in the tertiary education sector.
• Knowledge of learner success frameworks and equity-focused student support initiatives.
