Southlander Ethan Flack has carved out a successful career as a chef in the UK. Over the years he’s always returned to Southland to visit family, mentors and friends, giving back into the community who nurtured his beginnings. He was in Invercargill last week and spent time with graduating SIT hospitality students – assisting in assessments, giving feedback, talking to the students and presenting diplomas.

Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) student Josh Clarke’s final year project and presentation for his New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE), is a winner. Josh was awarded the national prize in the NZDE Best Engineering Project entitled “Meat Tubing Machine Design Project”.

This Saturday 15th February, teams of student volunteers from Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), will travel to Southland’s flood ravaged farms to make a difference. The call has already gone out for volunteers to bring their gumboots, gloves and a smile, with a willingness to get stuck in and assist farmers in some practical ways. General cleaning up of farms and fence repairs will be high on the list of priorities for the volunteers.

SIT has been working closely with New Zealand Health Authorities since becoming aware of this issue. There are still no known cases of the coronavirus in New Zealand, including at SIT, neither with staff nor students.

SIT has a plan in place for anyone presenting with symptoms consistent with the virus.

We are pleased to inform you that for all new and returning students we will be welcoming you back to the MAINZ Auckland campus at 150 Victoria Street for the first semester.

Firstly, we deeply and sincerely apologise for not being able to inform you of our start of year dates and location up until now. The building plans at Mangere were delayed and this made our stay at Victoria Street West complex to negotiate.

After years of uncertainty, equestrian enthusiasts wishing to turn their passion into a career are once again able to study for a fully accredited tertiary qualification at a national institute.

Telford, New Zealand’s only specialist rural polytechnic, became part of the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) in 2019, and with that partnership came a commitment to continuing and developing the Equine programme offered there.
