National Certificate and National Diploma in Project Management

Government Business Analyst Alec Hobson was looking to study for an NZQA accredited qualification to increase his knowledge and experience in Project Management. An internet search pointed him to SIT’s National Certificate in Project Management.

“The fact that SIT had distance learning, was NZQA accredited and had the Zero Fees scheme all played a part in my decision to enrol. The website was easy to use and the support received in the enrolment process made it a very easy exercise. That I could have some of my other studies cross-credited was also very helpful as it meant a slightly lesser workload to complete the full course.”

Alec enjoyed the freedom of studying part-time at his own pace via distance learning, and being able to submit assessments earlier if they were completed. “I enjoyed the ease in which assessments could be uploaded for submission and the overall uncomplicated way that Blackboard put everything at your fingertips.”

He chose a challenging work-load and finished the Level 4 Certificate in just 18 months while also working full-time. It wasn’t always easy, he admits. “It took quite a lot of commitment to just stay focused and on schedule. I planned my studies well and had a very strict schedule. Self-discipline was a key factor in the successful completion of my studies. Once I got used to the routine it was much easier. The support I received from my manager at work was also instrumental in the success of my studies. I also received excellent support from my tutors via email.”

Having now completed Level 4, Alec is currently studying towards the Level 5 National Diploma, with the Level 6 Diploma firmly in his sights after that.
