By studying at SIT, not only will you gain a world-class qualification, you will also receive comprehensive support towards employment. SIT employment support is available to both students and recent graduates, plus spouses of current students.
High employment rates
The Southland region boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in New Zealand. Our international students and their partners have been successful in finding employment right across the Southern region.
From study to work: We help you into employment
SIT provides comprehensive job search assistance, whether you are a student or a graduate. In addition to regular employment workshops, our dedicated Employment Officer offers one-on-one assistance to help you find employment opportunities.
How we help
SIT's Employment Officer can provide a variety of individualised assistance to help you confidently seek employment, including:
- Help to determine your interests and abilities
- Career, education and training advice
- Job search strategies
- Curriculum vitae (CV) preparation
- Interview skills
- Tailoring cover letters
We regularly run employment workshops for international students during the year. During orientation you will be introduced to our employment officer and provided with essential tips and techniques for understanding the New Zealand job market.
Current job vacancies
SIT runs a free jobs database for local employers, SITuations Vacant, which means employers can advertise jobs for free to SIT students, sometimes exclusively. Students can access the database for free. There is also a noticeboard with current vacancies in the SIT Student Centre, B Block, 133 Tay St, Invercargill.
Get your foot in the door
Volunteering at local organisations can be a great way for international students to obtain local experience and references – as well as meeting new people and contributing to our local community. Volunteer opportunities are advertised on the board opposite the Employment Office (B-Block). A useful website could be www.seekvolunteer.co.nz.
