Dr Anna Palliser from SIT’s School of Environment Management was invited to be keynote speaker at the 2026 Invercargill Model United Nations, which took place on Friday 29th May at Southland Boys’ High School, with representatives from all high schools across the city attending.

The free civics education event held by UN Youth Otago Southland focused on the main theme for this year: food security and agricultural innovation.

Dr Palliser spoke for 20 mins on food security, followed by 20 mins of questions. “The questions were amazing with students showing great engagement with the topic,” Dr Palliser said. She thought the event was well run and provided a valuable insight into the UN. “I stayed for a couple of hours afterwards and really enjoyed seeing our Invercargill school students learning about food issues and the United Nations through this interactive workshop.”
