SIT Hairdressing students were treated to a workshop with industry professionals this week, when Kyla Allan, co-owner of Halcyon Creative, and Bridal Hair Specialist, Rahera Tamihana, visited to demonstrate advanced practical skills.
The stylists visited SIT on Monday August 4th, to showcase long hair blow drying and hair-ups; both ran practical sessions using models with the classes.
In the morning session with Ms Allan, the Level 3 class joined as well, and heard about Ms Allan’s personal journey in hairdressing and what it takes to be successful within the industry. She then showcased her skills to the 22 students by demonstrating a radial long blow wave. SIT Hairdressing Tutor Helen Lee said, “This was an amazing practical session for the students, setting the standard of what ‘good’ looks like and how to achieve it to standard.”
For the afternoon session, Ms Tamihana, Salon Manager at the Florence Society, spoke about her journey, her love for hair-ups and what drives her to be the best she can be as a stylist. ”Rahera is such an inspiring young woman who connected so well with the students,” Ms Lee noted. Another class joined the afternoon session for a total of 17 students.
In feedback from the Level 4 students on what important learning they gained from the day, Ms Lee said their takeaway was knowledge is key for success. “Take in every piece of information that is given during early stages of your journey; even after that you will continue to learn every day throughout your career.”
“We were so blessed to have two industry professionals give up their valuable time and spend it with our classes,” Ms Lee said.
