Suqian College Delegation Visit

The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) saw a positive start to their 2015 international student recruitment drive with a visit from new Chinese Partners Suqian College on Thursday 5th February. The delegation visiting included Professor Gu Xiaohu (General Secretary and Head of the delegation), Professor Li Guodong (Director of Department of Computer and Science), Professor Wu Shaobing (Director of Office of Academic Affairs), Associate Professor Shen Gang (Deputy Director of Foreign Language), Assist Research Fellow Shen Daobo (Associate Director of Student’s Affairs division). They met a warm southern welcome by His Worship the Mayor of Invercargill Tim Shadbolt, SIT Chief Executive Penny Simmonds, SIT Chair Sarah Brown and SIT Senior management staff.

Suqian College and SIT had detailed discussions about possible opportunities between Information Technology and Business students and options for the Chinese students to pathway to SIT’s degrees and postgraduate studies. The Suqian delegation had further meetings with SIT’s Information Technology Programme Manager and staff to evaluate similarities between the two qualifications. Suqian College expressed interest in offering SIT’s English language programme for students that were looking to pathway to New Zealand.

The southern hospitality continued with a lunch at SIT’s hospitality training restaurant “The Bungalow” where further discussions about execution of the partnership continued. The delegation were shown around SIT’s facilities including International House, SIT Student Apartments and SIT Zerofees Velodrome and later had a chance to meet with Chinese students to learn first-hand about their experiences at SIT.
