Diploma in Veterinary Nursing

Kim McColl’s interest in animals developed through years of working with animals and working part time on a dairy farm. Kim wanted to gain education in the field that she was passionate about, so she chose the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing at SIT.

Kim believes the practical and theory that was taught during the course, and the opportunity to have placements in the industry which give work experience, helped her gain employment in the field. She undertook a placement at VetSouth during her study and was then later employed by the company. “Luckily I was able to use my placement opportunity to show my skills and enthusiasm to my now employer.”

Kim entered the workforce as a full time Veterinary Nurse/Customer Service Rep for VetSouth after gaining the Certificate in Veterinary Nursing and while studying towards the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Kim intends on completing the Diploma whilst working full time.

Courtney Cosgriff, Kim’s Supervisor at VetSouth, states “Kim joined VetSouth in June and has fit in well to our dynamic team. We believe that the education Kim obtained through SIT gave her the knowledge and confidence to be prepared for work in the veterinary nursing field. Placement opportunities while on the Certificate and Diploma courses allowed VetSouth to get to know Kim and recognise her ability. We at VetSouth are happy to support SIT with giving students the opportunity to experience ‘real time’ in a working veterinary clinic.”
