This qualification is intended for candidates of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue academic study requiring high levels of English language competency. Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic contexts. This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) high B2. This qualification allows educational institutions and professional bodies to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for academic and/or professional purposes.

The four courses that comprise this programme are delivered concurrently throughout the duration of study. Each course integrates the core language skills, language systems, and learner competencies on a range of complex, concrete, abstract, and technical topics relevant to academic settings.

Course content is organised around common subjects and themes across the programme to promote continuity and coherence for learners; however, each course maintains a distinct focus in relation to its specific learning outcomes and assessment requirements. The delivery methods are appropriate and well aligned with the stated programme learning outcomes. Any specialised resources required to support programme delivery are clearly identified and made available. The programme adopts a learner-centred educational approach, with a strong emphasis on constructivist learning theory.

Assessment is designed to support and evaluate learning through a balanced combination of formative and summative assessment practices, with a particular emphasis on authentic, real-world application of skills and knowledge.

To enter Level 5 programme, candidates either take a Placement Test or must have one of the following-

1. NZCEL Level 4 certificate

2. IELTS overall score of 6.0

3. PTE overall score of 50
