Who we are looking for

Southern Institute of Technology Limited is looking to appoint a suitable person to the above position based in Invercargill to join the joinery and Carpentry departments.

The main aim of this position is to support the work of tutorial staff by ensuring machinery/tools are in optimum condition, and class materials are available when required.

A day in this role may include

  • Liaising with suppliers and ordering supplies
  • Cutting timber and preparing materials for student projects
  • Preparation for Expos and other events
  • General technician duties including routine maintenance


The successful applicant will be willing to learn the operation and routine maintenance requirements for our joinery and Carpentry departments' traditional and modern machinery including CNC. The role may also include assisting technicians from other Trade-related areas.

This could be a new opportunity if you are qualified Joiner or Carpenter with suitable industry experience, or a person who is a graduate from a level 3 Joinery or Carpentry pre-trade programme, but anyone with the right attributes and passion for the trades may also apply.
