Hi all
We hope all is well in your bubbles. We wanted to update you with our discussions on a national basis around a potential return to play in 2020, following the NBL’s decision to suspend the season following the COVID-19 nation-wide lockdown.
As you may be aware through recent media articles, the NBL has presented a number of options to clubs which we have fully reviewed on their merits. Whilst we fully support the efforts to see basketball’s safe return to the court, upon review we have made the determination that the proposed modified 2020 competition isn’t a fit for our organisation.
Ultimately, in the current environment, our Board is taking a more medium-term view to ensure our sustainability into the future and that our aim to entertain and inspire Southlanders to be part of the game continues for years to come.
We remain in constant contact with the NBL and are working constructively with them to assist where we can. We have been blown away by the support from our funders and sponsors, our fans and our players who have already been talking with us about next season. We have also committed our participation in the 3x3 National Cup, which remains on the schedule for ILT Stadium Southland later in the year.
We feel very fortunate to have you all in our camp and your support through these crazy last few months has made the world of difference. We cannot thank you enough.
We know that there will be challenging days ahead, but we also know that together, we will weather this storm and we are very much looking forward to ripping in to planning for 2021 with the you as a key part of our Sharks’ family.
