Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management

After spending her university holidays working at a holiday park, Liana Keane realised she wanted a career in tourism.  She finished her Bachelor of Commerce then began comparing tourism and hospitality courses around the country.

“The SIT2LRN Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management stuck out at me because it leads into the Bachelor of Hotel Management. Also I really liked the sound of being able to study via distance learning, and I could further my studies without increasing my student loan through SIT’s Zero Fees Scheme.”

Liana has particularly enjoyed the broad spectrum of topics covered, and says she has gained a wide variety of skills for the tourism and hospitality industry both in New Zealand and internationally.  She also notes that her tutors were supportive, understanding and easy to stay in contact with.

She studied full-time and worked part-time. “SIT2LRN allowed me to work part-time and work my study around it. I was able to apply what I was learning to my job where I worked in a variety of positions - receptionist, cleaning and relieving for the motel managers.”

Next year Liana plans to continue studying with SIT2LRN’s Bachelor of Hotel Management. Her career goals include working in an international hotel chain, traveling internationally and operating her own motel/hotel or café.
