SIT Bachelor of Screen Arts

SIT Bachelor of Screen Arts student Nik Bartlett will be graduating at the end of the year.

Originally from Nelson, he lived in Russia for a while before settling in Hawera.

“Once I finished High School, I was looking for options to study Animation, and came across SIT and the Zero Fees scheme, so now I’m down here in Invercargill,” Nik says.

This was his first venture into tertiary study, and he had no idea what to expect from the course or SIT itself. He was pleasantly surprised.

“The facilities are great, we have loads of powerful PC’s at downtown which makes our work easy.

“ There are some awesome tutors, and we learn a fair bit from them.

“Being able to attend NZGDC (New Zealand Game Developers Conference) this year was fantastic, I learnt a lot and met some awesome people from the industry.”

Nik says the networking opportunities have been good, with Weta coming down occasionally and talking to students.

“I have gained more skills, contacts and knowledge from studying at SIT.

“I haven’t graduated yet, but I’m sure I’ll be able to get into the industry with my portfolio and skills.

“ I just need to put some feelers out as I wrap up my studies.”

He is keen to work in a game development studio as an animator or technical artist.

“ Indie or AAA, doesn’t matter.

“At least one successful shipped game would be awesome.”
