SIT Productions Profiles:
James Wilkinson – Team Leader / Producer
Originally from Cromwell, after 8 years of Carpentry, James decided to pursue a career in Film. He moved to Invercargill and studied Digital Media Film and a Graduate Diploma in 3D Animation in 2013. He now has a contract with SIT Productions and is also working for SIT2LRN as the Diploma in Digital Film screenwriting facilitator.
James was fortunate to get a job during his studies on the feature film Two Little Boys as the Extras Co-Ordinator. He has also worked on several television commercials, TV shows and short films.
When asked what he likes about working for SIT Productions, James says “I love the diversity and being able to use the skills I learnt while studying”. James also enjoys the flexibility of being employed in the industry as well as being able to work on personal films.
Mei Ling Au – Post Production
With a Bachelor of Communication majoring in film and video and mass communications, Mei Ling has been with SIT Productions since 2011, primarily producing content for SIT2LRN.
Specialising as a video editor, Mei Ling puts the elements of the final product together. “I like the finished product. It’s satisfying to see the end result.” she says.
Originally from Malaysia, Mei Ling found herself in southern New Zealand after she followed her husband, who teaches in the small Western Southland town of Tuatapere. She’s settled in her work and particularly enjoys the variety of work the production unit offers.
Even though she’s busy in her paid employment, Mei Ling is grateful for the flexibility to participate in several freelance projects, including working as a Production Assistant for Walt Disney's film, Pete's Dragon.
Ash Bartlett – Camera Technician
Originally from Gisborne, Ash made his way south to Invercargill to complete a Bachelor in Digital Media under the Zero Fees Scheme. He was lucky enough to secure an internship with SIT Productions before being offered a full time contract.
His specialty is lighting but as a member of the set crew he can be also be found behind the camera or ‘gripping’ – that’s setting up the camera rigging gear.
During his time as a student Ash enjoyed a summer stint working on the Sarkies brothers’ New Zealand feature film, Two Little Boys. Networking during filming led to more work on Sione’s Wedding 2 and Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake.
Working with SIT Productions offers double benefits to Ash, as he enjoys a much sought-after opportunity to work 9am to 5pm in his chosen industry while honing his skills.
Matt Inns - Director
Born on Tatooine, Matt turned to filmmaking after realizing he couldn't actually grow up to be Indiana Jones. In 2011 he was selected for the NZFC Trainee Feature Director Scheme, and has since directed multiple music videos and genre short films, which have screened at numerous festivals around the world. He currently works in the SIT Productions team, primarily as a director.
Nick McGrath - Editor/ Audio Technician
Having completed a postgraduate degree at Otago in English & Film, Nick headed home in 2009 to study the Diploma in Digital Film. He was lucky enough to grab an internship in the Art Department on Two Little Boys - his first practical taste of the industry. A two year sabbatical in the Scottish Borders followed, courtesy of a rugby contract with Melrose RFC, before Nick returned to start local band The Sparrow Thieves. During this stint he worked fulltime at Cue Television, before migrating to the SIT Productions team in 2015 as a Camera Op/Video Editor.
He is excited to be collaborating with some of the region’s most creative and enterprising minds.
