SIT Apartments
The SIT Apartments are an apartment complex specifically for international students. You will live in a single or two-room apartment with attached living area, kitchen and bathroom. You can choose to share a room to reduce costs. Units are spacious and self contained; kitchen utensils are provided. There is a shared laundry onsite. Located in central Invercargill city, you will only be a 5-10 minute walk from SIT's campuses.
Homestays
SIT administers a network of approved homestay hosts, local Kiwi families who host international students. Homestays are the perfect way to introduce yourself to New Zealand; not only will you improve your English, you will also learn about Kiwi culture and become an important part of a local family. You will have your own room and access to shared family facilities. Meals are provided. For more information about homestay life click here.
Private accommodation
In addition to SIT Accommodation, there is a range of other accommodation options that you can choose from, including the Living Space Apartments, Karon Court, Dan Davin Village and Kelvin House. You can also choose to rent a room in a private home or flat. Prices can vary from $85 to $200 for one room in Invercargill.
The SIT Difference
Two weeks free accommodation
Choose SIT and we pay for your first two weeks accommodation and meals! You will be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation. You can stay at the Grand Hall of Residence or at a homestay under our two free weeks policy. It’s just one more way we make it easy to study in New Zealand.
Accommodation workshops
During orientation, we run a detailed accommodation workshop which outlines all your options including renting, boarding, joining an established flat, homestays, the SIT Apartments and The Grand Hall of Residence. The workshop includes presentations and valuable advice from local real estate agents, including what properties are available. It gives you the opportunity to ask us all your questions in a casual environment. Then, during our city bus tour, we visit some available properties.
Experience Southland
Low living costs
Choose Southland and you will benefit from our low cost of living. According to New Zealand Government data (Department of Building and Housing), you can save at least $60 a week ($3224 a year) on the cost of one room compared with Auckland. If you choose a two bedroom apartment, you will save $291 a week. That leaves more money in your pocket for other things, like entertainment!
