Damon Leitch’s bid for the Toyota Racing Series got an early Christmas present yesterday with the news that the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is back on board as naming rights sponsor.
“We’re very happy that we’ve got SIT and also Mobil back as sponsors for the 2012 series,” Damon Leitch said. “The orange Zero Fees car really stands out on the track and with what we learnt from last year, I’m hoping to see it at the front of the field again.”
Leitch said the sponsorship worked well for both parties, as he was happy to promote SIT’s trades training programmes around the country.
“The focus on trades training, especially with the rebuild going on in Christchurch and the need for more people in trades training, is an easy one for me to talk about.”
As an apprentice mechanic and SIT student, he knew the systems and had had plenty of experience promoting SIT in the past.
“This support from SIT for the Toyota Racing Series has been a great relief and I really want to show everyone how fast we can go,” he said.
The Toyota Racing Series has the first round at Leitch’s home track of Teretonga on 12-15 January, followed by four other rounds on consecutive weekends, including the 57th running of the New Zealand Grand Prix at Manfeild from February 9-12.
Leitch said he while they still needed a little more sponsorship, having SIT’s Zero Fees logo back on the car was a big relief. “We can concentrate on the preparation and the racing now.”
