Regalia
Hire Process:
During September/October tutorial staff collect regalia measurements from students who are graduating. Full information and invitations are posted to students in mid-November.
Collection:
Regalia can be collected from Room I-1.03 (in Ives Block, the building next to the SIT Café in the Tay St Campus, Invercargill) on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th December between 10am-4pm. If you are unable to uplift it at this time, please arrange for a friend to do so on your behalf. (Cost - $45 for Diplomates, $65 for Graduands. Cash only at time of collection)
You will receive instructions explaining the correct way to wear the regalia when you collect your items.
If you are not living in Southland but intending to take part in the Graduation Ceremony, please contact your Faculty Administrator to make special arrangements with the Graduation Coordinator to collect and pay for your regalia on the morning of the Graduation ceremony.
Return:
Regalia must be returned either following the procession on Graduation Day (between 3:30–5pm, to room I-1.03) or on Monday 17th or Tuesday 18th December. All regalia must be returned by 1pm Tuesday 18th December, or there will be a $50 penalty to cover late return courier costs. If your regalia is lost or damaged, the replacement cost is: Gown $350.00; Trencher $80.00; Hood $110.00.
The Ceremony
Graduands are to assemble and remain back stage of the Civic Theatre (using the back entrance from Esk Street side) before 1pm. You will be placed in recipient order prior to the entry procession.
Dress Code:
- Tidy dress is expected - no jandals, chewing gum, handbags, coats, cell phones, cigarettes or alcohol
- Please leave all personal items such as handbags and cellphones with your families/friends prior to the ceremony, and collect them after the graduation procession
- Strictly NO smoking while dressed in regalia
You will be called up individually onto the stage during the ceremony. When you leave the stage you must return to your seat until the ceremony is over. Immediately afterwards, graduands must assemble in the adjacent car park for the procession through the city.
City Procession
The procession travels from the Civic Theatre carpark along the route pictured below, back to SIT.

Your invited guests are welcome to watch the procession or make their way back to SIT to wait for you.
Strictly NO mobile phones, cigarettes, or lighters to be carried during the procession. There will be no road closures so you are reminded to keep left of the white line.
Invited Guests
Faculty Administrators send out a form to students in mid-November to confirm whether you are definitely coming and how many guest tickets you need (RSVP date late November).
You are entitled to:
- Diplomates - up to 2 Guest Tickets
- Graduands - up to 4 Guest Tickets
You may request one additional ticket but it is on a first in - first served basis, and there will not be sufficient if everyone requests one. Each guest ticket entitles the bearer to a seat in the ceremony plus one free drink and nibbles at the SIT Café, following the procession through the city.
Your guest tickets will be distributed with your regalia. Entry to the graduation ceremony is by ticket only - there is no charge.
Photographs
SIT arranges a photographer to take photos of graduands and diplomates "crossing the stage" at the graduation ceremony. A photographer is also available after the ceremony (back at SIT) for portraits of individuals, families and groups. Information and prices will be provided to you closer to the time. To order photographs you will contact the photographer directly.
TV Coverage / DVD
The Graduation will be filmed by SIT2LRN TV Production Unit and will be screened via delayed telecast throughout New Zealand on CUE (also on Freeview Channel 23, and SKY Channel 110). Exact times and dates to be advised.
The Graduation DVD, which contains the coverage of the Graduation Ceremony as broadcast on CUE TV, will be available for purchase from the SIT main campus. Purchase date to be advised.
