Te Reo Maori is developed further to speak confidently at an intermediate level in conversations and every day situations. You will have a greater understanding of ‘Nga Tikanga Maori' from both a traditional and contemporary context. The programme is made up of four wahanga (sections) Te Hau Rawhiti - The East, Te Hau Raki - The North, Te Hau a Uru - The West, and Te Hau Tonga - The South. Te Hau Rawhiti has a descriptive focus, Te Hau Raki contains a language of investigation, Te Hau a Uru begins with a focus on retelling stories and rekindling memories and Te Hau Tonga continues to focus on present happenings and occurrences.

The programme will allow students to begin to explore ideas through drawing and media, to recognise the design process, to use drawing to record development, to use a journal/workbook to help develop and extend ideas, to recognise some aspects of cultural practice (waiata, kawa, tikanga), to explore own whakapapa, to explore ideas through media, to identify basic techniques and begin to apply these to make work, to use a variety of media and techniques, to follow safe workshop practice, to present work under some direction and to practice basic time management.

This programme aims to increase the number of speakers in conversational Te Reo Máori across all generations. You will examine aspects of tikanga Máori through activities especially designed to encourage communication in Máori. These will include a combination of formal and informal situations such as Hui, Powhiri and Noho Marae.
This fun and exciting programme is a foundation level of the Maori language which will introduce you to basic tikanga Maori and introductory conversational Maori.
