SIT Invercargill Campus is offering courses in Unit Standard 24305: “Install, test, commission, and maintain solar water heating systems”.
It is a 4 day theory and practical learning and assessment block course aimed at licenced plumbers who wish to become eligible to apply for Registration as an EECA Participating Installer, or to hone their skills to improve the quality of solar hot water installation.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of solar water heating systems; prepare for installation of solar water heating systems; install, commission, and test solar water heating systems; maintain solar water heating systems; work safely and with care; and demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements, selection of methods and materials, and underpinning concepts and principles, as applied to the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of solar water heating systems.
Prerequisites: Current plumbing certificate or licence as issued under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006; and Unit 21884, Install and maintain roofing, rainwater handling, and cladding systems, and flashings; or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
Please note Unit 21884 has a prerequisite of Unit 15757 Employ fall arrest systems on building and construction sites.
For Registered and Craftsman Plumbers who do not hold units 21884 and 25282 / 25288 there is a RPL process (recognition of prior learning) for assessment of these units.
