The Certificate in Introductory Plumbing and Gasfitting, Drainlaying or Roofing is a full-time programme of 18 tutorial weeks.
It is an entry-level programme providing students with the skills and knowledge required for employment or further training in the plumbing and gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing sectors and as an introduction for those interested in obtaining one or more of the Level 4 National Certificates in Plumbing, Gasfitting, Drainlaying or Roofing.
The theoretical and practical skills taught in this qualification reflect the diverse range of skills required to work in the sector.
Compulsory

Drainlaying Strand

25423 Establish position and gradient of drains, and dig trenches for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying
25421 Mark out, cut, join and test pipework for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying
1099 Excavate and trench for plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying
Roofing Strand
All of the unit standards listed below are required.
21413 Demonstrate knowledge of roofing hand and power tools
25334 Demonstrate knowledge of the roofing industry within a BCATS environment
25273 Interpret roofing plans and specifications and perform simple calculations
14609 Describe risk factors that contribute to injury on construction sites

25069 Perform basic residential roofing maintenance under supervision
At the successful completion of this programme, students will have the required competencies to undertake apprenticeship training within the plumbing and gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing sectors.
For students to be considered to have satisfactorily completed this programme, and be eligible for award of the qualification Certificate in Introductory Plumbing and Gasfitting, Drainlaying or Roofing they must have:

Attended for not less than 80% of the timetabled class hours and other schedule learning activities.

Completed all required practical and theoretical work.

Successfully completed assessment requirements for all modules, and achieved a minimum total of 60 credits.
