Bachelor of Information Technology - Josh Hollingworth

Josh has always wanted to do IT since he started school.  “SIT’s Bachelor of Information Technology seemed more hands-on than Otago’s.  The course itself was a really good balance between practical and theory.

“The computers were good to work with, we had everything we needed. The tutors were excellent - if I emailed them at night I would still get replies and they would stay behind at lunch to help if we needed it.

“For the third year project, my mate and I did a website for Catlins Quilts. The client had sold quilts for 25 years and wanted to move on to teaching, holding online forums, etc.

“I learnt lots from doing this.  It was a really good experience because it taught me communication skills and making sure you get good interaction with the client, plus time management.”

Josh’s new role at Gen-i as a Junior Service Engineer sees him fixing laptops, diagnosing operating systems, setting up networks, helpdesks, client sites, and repair work, so a broad range of networking and hardware.

“I learnt the base skills of everything within the degree course, and my experience communicating with clients was really vital. I felt like I was the guy for the job when I applied.”
