Diploma in Animation - Teresa Hooper
Diploma in Animation - Theresa Hooper
Teresa graduated from Southern Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Animation. She is currently working as an independent contractor in Wellington. Here is her take on Animation:
“I am a creative person, and I chose the Diploma in Animation because I like bringing ideas to life. In the first year you can study both film and animation. I loved that, because it helped me to realise that animation was truly for me, but it also gave me a good general knowledge of how the film industry works.
“The highlight of the course for me would be the freedom – when doing assignments there is a lot of choice when deciding what you want to create. Projects were fun, and the tutors were great! It really was good times all round.
“The resources and equipment SIT have are amazing - some of the best in the industry from what I hear. At SIT I had access to a wide variety of equipment, as well as a wide variety of people to learn from.
“The diploma course was an excellent starting point, and since completing it I have worked on films, learnt more skills, and I am expanding my portfolio. I would like to eventually complete the degree in Digital Media at SIT, because it is Zero Fees, and living costs in Invercargill are really cheap. My goal for now is to gain as much animation experience as I can. With the right show-reel, the world is your oyster!
“I would definitely recommend SIT. I've talked to people who have studied elsewhere and it's cost them so much more money to gain the same qualifications, and they now have huge student loans to pay back. Thanks to Zero Fees I was able to complete my diploma without a loan. The equipment at SIT is amazing, and you get the same education for a fraction of the cost.”
