You will examine aspects of tikanga Máori through activities especially designed to encourage communication in Māori. The programme will allow students to gain skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to initial employment, or further training in the audio industry, or for entry to the Bachelor of Audio Production. Students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and skills to standards recognised by the industry sector as appropriate, and develop work habits and practice appropriate for further training and employment in the audio sector.
Graduates of this programme will have the knowledge and skills required to enter the motor industry, and be able to employ safe working practices appropriate to the industry. Graduates will be competent in a wide range of relevant industry skills.
SIT works in conjunction with local service providers to provide quality trained staff to help service the farming, civil construction and road transport industries. Specifically its automotive section is providing pre-trade training for potential diesel mechanics.
SIT is accredited to provide a specialised course in Automotive Heavy Trades by the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). We are also accredited to conduct off-job training for diesel mechanics and hold a distance learning contract for the MITO, meaning SIT facilitates and assesses correspondence work for apprentices all around New Zealand.
During the Certificate in Automotive Heavy Trades course, students are placed with a recognised automotive heavy equipment repairer who will both delegate them various tasks and help SIT assess their progress.

This course will provide students with the practical skills required for making and designing floristry products such as hand-tied bouquets and posies, corsages, floral gifts, wristlets and buttonholes, and flower arrangements. It also covers important operational functions for providing floristry service in a retail environment including the conditioning and preparation of products, appropriateness for the occasion, handling and care, supplier and seasonal availability, toxicity/allergy characteristics, shelf life and price, and customer service skills.

The Certificate in Construction course covers carpentry theory, elementary construction skills, health and safety, drawing and practical construction skills. Every class builds a house from scratch, with practical sessions being alternated with classroom learning. Classes are 3 days per week and students are encouraged to seek work experience with an employer for the other 2 days. This course allows students to work through a lot of the theory units required for their building apprenticeship, which should help them get through their apprenticeship faster.

This is an introductory certificate for people wishing to pursue employment and further training in the electrical and related industries. It is the first stage of training leading to qualifications as an electrician, or in switchgear fitting, motor rewinding and repair, industrial measurement and control, electronic security and related trades.
The aim of this programme is to produce students who can demonstrate competence in customer service, reception, salon support tasks, and elementary and selected complex hairdressing skills. It aims to prepare students for either work in a hairdressing salon, or further study and to develop a sound base for further training in hairdressing skills.

The Certificate in Introductory Plumbing and Gasfitting, Drainlaying or Roofing is a full-time programme of 18 tutorial weeks.
It is an entry-level programme providing students with the skills and knowledge required for employment or further training in the plumbing and gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing sectors and as an introduction for those interested in obtaining one or more of the Level 4 National Certificates in Plumbing, Gasfitting, Drainlaying or Roofing.
The theoretical and practical skills taught in this qualification reflect the diverse range of skills required to work in the sector.

This is an intensive programme looking at all of the areas of engineering and providing the entry skills for an apprenticeship in the engineering sector.
This qualification is designed for learners who wish to enter mental health and addiction support work, or who already work as paid or unpaid mental health and addiction support workers under supervision. People completing this qualification will meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health’s (2008) Let's get real framework at the essential level of performance.
This certificate has been designed to give you fundamental knowledge of the theoretical and practical components of contemporary music and sound engineering. The curriculum has been developed to level 2 unit standards in the following fields of study, music studies, music performance, performing arts technology, sound production and interpersonal communication.

Unit standards towards the National Certificate in Painting (Level 3) are completed or introduced on this programme. This is an industry based programme for licensed plumbers, and non-plumbers currently employed in sales, contract management roles, or technical positions with solar water heating systems, wishing to gain experience in the field of solar installation, design and management of solar water heating installation.
Students are able to exit the Diploma in Sport and Recreation after successful completion of year one, graduating with this Certificate in Sport and Recreation.
Two possible pathways are available: Sports Development / Personal Training, or Outdoor Leadership.

The National Certificate in Travel (Level 4) recognises the skills and knowledge required in making and processing international travel arrangements that meet customer needs; including the ability to make computerised reservations for domestic land, water and air travel, and domestic and international accommodation. The course also covers dealing with difficult situations and customer complaints; applying calculations and data analysis; and presenting information orally to an audience.
This programme provides students with the theoretical and practical skills appropriate for entering employment in the animal health sector, or in preparation for further specialist study. The qualification will be awarded to students who have competence in a wide range of skills appropriate to work in a veterinary clinic.
This qualification is a progression from the Certificate in Elementary Hair Design. It recognises people in the hairdressing industry who have demonstrated competence in the knowledge and skills required by industry. Holders of the qualification are able to consult and analyse with a client and give advice, provide detailed client records, provide basic client services such as midway colouring, clipper cutting, basic hair cutting, make informed decisions on what action needs to be taken and carry out that action in a professional manner, recommend home hair care products and how to take care of and style the hair and communicate with the client fully at all times.

Our training is a prerequisite for starting apprenticeships in Automotive Engineering, Automotive Engineering (Heavy Equipment) Automotive Electrical Engineering, Automotive Machining and Motorcycle Engineering.

Landscape Design combines elements of art and science to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing extension of indoor living to the outdoors. One purpose of landscape design is to blend houses or buildings into the natural surroundings. To work toward a desirable landscape design, the landscape horticulturist must have a working knowledge of design principles and plants.
This programme aims to provide students with the know-how to undertake a range of landscape design activities and associated operations within the horticultural sector at an entry tradesperson level. It is comprised of two modules that include unit standards at Level 3 and Level 4. You will gain skills and knowledge that will prepare you for employment in the horticultural industry, specifically landscape design.

This programme would suit anyone who is passionate about cars and has some artistic flair. This pre employment programme with an emphasis on motorbody industry skills is intended to prepare people for an apprenticeship in the motorbody industry. Our training can lead to careers in panel beating, refinishing, coach building and restoration. The creative aspects of potential employment are custom car building, painting and air brushing. This programme is the industry standard, and employers offering apprenticeships prefer pre trade trained students.

Students will gain a strong scientific understanding of fitness, coupled with the ability to apply this knowledge in the contexts of individual, local and national needs. They will also gain expertise in issues relating to managing people, and fitness facilities.

This programme is designed for those wishing to enter the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. The units covered are designed to give practical and theory based skills in refrigeration, air conditioning and electrical work. Although the programme is a pre apprenticeship programme it also attracts more mature students who may wish to enter the industry as a technician. The successful students can gain a maximum of 20 credits towards the Certification of Refrigeration Engineer.
