Course Outline

This programme in business administration will provide students with the skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to working or further training in the business sector.  The programme encompasses keyboarding skills, computer applications, communications and administrative systems.

 

This programme will provide students with the required knowledge in business administration and computing to progress to the National Certificate in Business Administration (Level 4) or further related study.  (Students can enrol in levels 3 and 4 to complete a full 12 month programme within one academic year).

 

The training in this programme is nationally and locally relevant and is taught in an environment which reflects workplace practices.  A component of the programme is taught in a simulated office.

Career Opportunities

Business practices are changing rapidly, largely because of technological advances. To administer an office with efficiency and expertise requires a broad range of skills, knowledge and attitudes.  The Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3) has been specially designed as a broad based qualification to give you entry level skills, knowledge and competency required by the industry. Graduates will be qualified to enter a variety of occupations in office management, secretarial, word processing, computing and clerical positions. You may wish to continue with further study in the National Certificate in Business Administration (Level 4).

Application Criteria

The major criterion for entry is that the applicant will have a reasonable chance of success.  Applications will be considered from mature applicants 20 years and over, or students under 20 years who have a minimum of four years satisfactory secondary education or relevant work experience.

Satisfactory Completion

For students to be considered to have satisfactorily completed this programme and be eligible for the award of the qualification National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3) they must have: Attended for not less than 80% of the timetabled class hours and other scheduled learning activities relating to the programme.  Completed all scheduled course work requirements and assessments.  Successfully completed assessment requirements for all modules/unit standards, and achieved a total of 120 credits.

 

Upon successful completion of this course, students may apply to NZQA for the:

  • National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 2), and the
  • National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3)
