Course Outline

The National Certificate in Computing (Level 3) will provide students with knowledge and skills in computer hardware, software, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and file management.   The emphasis is on the practical application of technology in the workplace.

 

The programme will allow students to gain skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to working or further training in the computing sector, and develop work habits and practice appropriate for this.

Content may include:

  • personal computer operation
  • computer data management
  • operating systems usage
  • word processing
  • spreadsheets
  • databases
  • documenting business transactions
  • desktop publishing
  • peripherals
  • accounting records
  • financial statements

Career Opportunities

At the successful completion of this programme, students will have the required competencies to function successfully and effectively at operational levels within the computing sector.

Application Criteria

The major criterion for entry is that the applicant will have a reasonable chance of success. 16 years of age or over.  Mature applicants welcome.

Satisfactory Completion

For students to be considered to have satisfactorily completed this programme and be eligible for the award of the qualification "National Certificate in Computing Level 3" they must have:

  • attended for not less than 80% of the timetabled class hours and other activities relating to the programme .
  • completed all practical and theory exercises relating to the programme.
  • met the assessment requirements and demonstrated competence in the assessed programme unit standards relating to the programme, to a minimum of 52 credits as specified.

           

(Please note: students failing to attend 80% of timetabled programme hours will forfeit zero fee entitlement).
