Course Outline

This course gives students an appreciation of coffee. The course includes the history and evolution of coffee and espresso technology for today's café society. This course is targeted towards those interested in the barista field, plus those currently within the industry who wish to upskill.

Course Content

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of coffee equipment and recipes, and prepare and present pressed and filtered coffee for service.  You will also learn about coffee heritage and production.  Successful students will receieve a SIT Certificate of Attendance.

New Zealand's hospitality and tourism services industry has experienced significant growth in the last decade and the trend appears set to continue.

Career opportunties include working in cafes, coffee shops, bistros and taverns or wherever good coffee is served.

Additional Criteria

  • Academic and personal attributes to undertake the programme with a reasonable chance of success.
  • A high level of personal presentation.
  • Work ethic required for employment in the hospitality industry.
